Assistant Professor of Mathematics

LOCATION: 澳门心水论坛 Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Professional/Teacher) 9 month

THIS POSITION WILL BEGIN AUGUST 2025

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As a full-time (9 month) faculty member, the Assistant Professor of Mathematics will be primarily responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses. Generally, the mathematics faculty shares in teaching all levels of mathematics courses. Additionally, faculty members are expected to have an authentic Christian faith that is evident through their personal interactions and activities, commitment to a local church body, and is a model for our students. Faculty should seek out mentoring relationships with the students through opportunities such as academic advising, undergraduate research, and student organization support.

 SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

  1. Teaching a total of 24 semester hours of mathematics courses per academic year.
  2. Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours per week.
  3. Academically advise undergraduate students and assist with registrations and recruiting events.
  4. Serve on University, Faculty, and School Committees; assist with and attend graduations and school events, and attend scheduled faculty/staff meetings.
  5. Actively engaging in professional development activities and guiding undergraduate research.

The above statements are not a complete list of all responsibilities and duties performed by employees in this position. Employee may perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences or the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and 澳门心水论坛 Baptist University in particular.

Education:

An earned Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related discipline is required. ABD applicants will also be considered.

Experience and Knowledge:

Prior teaching experience is preferred.

 Skills and Abilities:

  1. The ability to teach mathematics courses at all levels. All areas of mathematics are welcome to apply, but experience in the area of data science is an advantage.
  2. An interest in teaching at a university where teaching excellence is highly valued.
  3. An interest in directing undergraduate research that is student centered is an asset.
  4. Fluency in the English language with the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas orally and in writing.
  5. Proficiency with computers, technology, and related educational/classroom equipment.
  6. The ability and desire to apply Christian principles in the workplace.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  2. Able to pass background checks.
  3. Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report. A credit check will be conducted to ensure the requirement is met.

The Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Sciences is distinct in its high-quality undergraduate-focused research, commitment to student travel opportunities, and emphasis on the integration of faith and science. The school is a recipient of the NSF Noyce grant for training future STEM educators through engagement in research. The university strongly supports the Math and Sciences undergraduate research program by providing individual funds for research and travel. Faculty are not required to pursue funding through grants, but do have university support (including grant-writing assistance) if they choose to pursue outside funding.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of the hire date to establish his or her identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Naturalization Services. Employees must be able and willing to travel. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
