Placement Testing
To determine placement in your English and Math courses, you may need to take placement tests. These placement exams can be taken either in person at the Plainview campus or remotely via Zoom.

In-Person Testing
- Materials Provided: Paper, pencil, and calculator for math tests.
- Important: You will be asked to leave your phone in a secure location during the test.
Remote Testing via Zoom
Before your scheduled test date, make sure you meet the following requirements:
General Guidelines:
- Computer Required: Tests cannot be taken on a tablet or phone.
- PC Preferred: Software works best on a PC, but accommodations can be made for MacBooks or Chromebooks.
- Working Camera: Your computer must have a functioning camera.
- Enable Pop-Ups: Make sure your browser allows pop-ups. Chrome is recommended for testing.
- Quiet Workspace: Ensure you have a distraction-free environment.
- Phone Accessibility: We will confirm that your phone is not accessible, and your workspace is clear of unauthorized materials.
Math Placement Exam:
- Materials Allowed: Blank scratch paper, a pencil, and a scientific calculator.
- Calculator Restriction: You cannot use the calculator on your phone or computer.
- After Testing: Dispose of any used scratch paper after completing the exam.
Computer Requirements for Testing
Please review and adjust your computer setup before your testing appointment. If your setup is not ready by the scheduled time, you will need to reschedule.
- Testing must be done on a computer. Phones, iPads, and tablets are not compatible with the testing site.
- Pop-ups must be enabled. Ensure your privacy settings allow pop-ups.
- Accuplacer Compatibility: Safari is not recommended. If you're using a MacBook, download Chrome for a smoother experience.
- Disable Grammarly and other AI writing assistance tools.
- Zoom Settings: Make sure Zoom can access your microphone and camera for remote proctoring.
Allowed and Prohibited Materials
WritePlacer (English Placement):
- Allowed: Paper and pen/pencil for prewriting and brainstorming.
- Prohibited: Spell-checkers, thesauruses, dictionaries, or any other reference materials.
Math Placement Exam:
- Allowed: Paper, pencil, and a scientific calculator.
- Prohibited: Using a device connected to the internet (e.g., phone, tablet, computer) as a calculator or for notes.
